My Favorite Cookbooks Treasured ~ Baking ~ Asian
|
In 2002-04 Cliff and I hosted
exchange students from Thailand
& Vietnam. I picked up Asian
cooking from them and when we
traveled to Ho Chi Minh City
(Saigon) for two weeks. Some of
our favorites are pho, pad thai
noodles, fresh spring rolls and
sushi vegetable rolls by Yuriko.
Betty Crocker was my first cookbook. I've worn out three editions. Jane Brody is my natural food mentor. "Pure & Simple has great master mixes that I use frequently
|
Newer cookbooks that
have great healthy
recipes. I highly
recommend "The Bread
Baker's Apprentice"
by Peter Reinhart
"Oliver" joined us in Jan 07.
He is an electric bread slicer
and was purchased from
Waterford, Pa. We
purchased her for $500 but
she has a selling price of over
$3,000.
"Dutchess" is is a cast iron
roll divider who hails from
Erie, Pa. She makes 36
uniform rolls all at one time.
She required the strength of
two grown men to move her
and plans on staying put.
"Necco" is an electric
roaster manufactured in
the 1950's. He comes in
handy when we are having
a lot of guests. Some of
his specialties are
sauerkraut and pork and
sausage with onions &
peppers
"Anvil" is a 10 quart mixer
who kneads 2-3 loaves of
bread at a time. He is also
great for mixing up a smaller
batch of cookies and the
filling for pumpkin rolls.
"Berkel" is my hero. He works
full time kneading up to 9 loaves
of bread at a time, including the
popular Swedish Rye Bread and
Pepperoni Bread sold at Bell's
Market in Kane. He also mixes
up double batches of the famous
Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies
Little Mill Creek
Kitchen
designed by Jeanette &
built by Cliff using antique
hand planes and chisels.
We look forward to your
visit. There is always
coffee in the pot.

"Windsor" is our oldest
employee, being over 100
years old. We bought him
from The White Swan Antique
store before we were married
in 2001. We fire him up on
cold winter days to take the
chill off. On occasion we
simmer a pot of soup on the
stove or slow cook a roast in
the oven.
